5 MOST INTENSE OF TRESPASSING MOVIE - FREAKNCO CHOICE

How many times have your house being invaded by stranger?

Thieves and robbers, both of them are most frequent person who gets into people's houses.

Thieves had entering my house at night once. He went to the inside by passing the clothesline area. This area lies at the top, next to the roof, and ones of open space from many parts of my house.

Imagining how that thief climbs it from vacant yard behind the house was crazy. He’s surely had firm intention and being pro's because he should climb for about three meters high in order to get to that spot…it was something to be prepared even for parkour athletes or rock climbing though…

I’ve another awkward case of stranger broken into my house when a beggar suddenly went into the side porch, where I was sitting there enjoying my morning coffee and me-time of write, the beggar open the fence latch and walks in like he’s on his own, with funny alibis saying he already rungs many times but no one comes out to noticed him.

No wonder if no one heard the door bell because it’s dead from two months ago, I’m so lazy to change the batteries, but that doesn’t mean he could trespassed just like that, right? That’s why I kicked him out, with a hard warning to call the cops if he replies the deed.

Whenever stranger invaded our house that supposed to be your safe place or sanctuary it brings you trauma, right?  That’s why the law justifies the killing action by house owner to trespassers who want to rob them in terms of self defense.

Hostage case on 4 September 2016 at Pondok Indah that runs for approximately six hours and ended with the arrest of the perpetrators became hits topic in social media, some says that’s first hostage case happened in Indonesia.

The fact is hostage crime actually didn’t happened for the first time if it’s calculated  with trespassing or house robbery cases, considering that might happened when the criminals confine or even killed the residents to eliminated witnesses.

Although it did not describe more specific, 2014 crime statistics reports conduct by Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) shows that the rate of robbery in Indonesia lies in significant numbers despite the decline from 2011 to 2013, ie 110.481 cases in 2013 alone (Table 4.1 case 84).

This means there are about 302 cases of robbery per day, including breaches of the house, in a year only throughout Indonesia.

With this amount I wonder why there’s no Indonesian film yet that raised the terror of house breaking as depicted in Don’t Breathe. This theme is worth mentioning as an alternative to our horror movies or thrillers as well.

The following 5 movies of house breaking themed which I think should be watched and be a reference in addition to Don't Breathe, are:

  1.   PANIC ROOM (2002)

It’s very cool film indeed. It’s not only has original idea about a house that had safe room for the residence to hide in distress but also filled with super cool casts.

Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart
playing as mother-daughter of Altman
Jodie Foster as Meg Altman – a single mother of a daughter who has to defend her home, Kristen Stewart - performing Sarah Altman, daughter of Meg and started to get the audience attentions which continues to Twilight serial, Forest Whitaker and Jared Leto - two of the three thieves that broke into Meg’s new house.

Jared Leto and Forest Whitaker
playing as burglar in the movie
The burglars breaking into the house in order to steal bonds worth US $ 3 million that stashed inside the house by its previous owner.

Meg and Sarah seem to be the people who are unlucky to be in wrong place and wrong time, but this film teach us to be more careful to lock the house door properly and add it with a padlock, if it’s necessary, before going to bed, especially if we don’t have the panic room to save us from situation that happened to Meg.

  1.   TRESPASS (2011)

Starring by Nicolas Cagedan Nicole Kidman, the film tells about wealthy couples who have two children - a girl and a boy - who lived in a mansion, had luxury car, and a safe that contain with diamonds as business commodities of the father who's doing business as a jewelry merchant.
Nicolas Cage with the role of wealthy businessman
who's captive by burglar
The hostage act increase its intensity when the couple finally realized that there had been treachery between them. The marriage that looks nice and harmonious is nearly through the edge for real when the wife is caught having an affair with one of the robbers who entered the house while the husband doing cheating arrangement of their fortune from the wife.

Although the story is interestingly complex in my opinion, it’s unfortunately did not last long in theaters. Withdrawn after running in just 10 days and lose money because with a production budget of US $ 35,000,000 but just got revenues of US $ 24.094 on the other hand. Apparently, the big name of Cage and Kidman can’t guarantee the success...

  1.   CAPE FEAR (1991)

Collaboration between Martin Scorsese as Director and Robert De Niro finally met once more in the film that had darker theme than the rest they had produced before.

De Niro role as Max Cady, the perpetrators of rape who just got out of prison after serving 14 years of his sentences. Once out of prison, Cady directly hunting a former lawyer, Sam Bowden, who failed in defending his case. He trailed the activities of Sam and his family until he’s doing his plan in objectives to give lessons to Sam for his failure.

De Niro play well as sadistic Max Cady
De Niro makes huge success becoming horrifying antagonist when he’s doing stalking to Danielle Bowden, Sam’s daughter, played by Juliette Lewis and gone mad thing such killing dog and housekeeper of the family in their house then chasing Sam with his family to their private boat at Cape Fear.

  1.   FUNNY GAMES (2007)

Naomi Watts and Tim Roth roles as a married couple, with a child, which being held by two psychopath men in their house.

Many things happened during the captivity, and we had to see scenes that mostly dominated by torturing and brutal acts, especially when it made the audience seeing from the criminal’s point of view who usually stares to the camera while doing the torture.

We must question our existence because the film makes us, anyhow, a witness of Ann, played by Naomi Watts, when she screaming and moaning similar to the brutality of porn movies or to see George, starring Tim Roth, struggles with his broken bones, or a shotgun blast that killed one of the characters in cold blood.

Michael Haneke makes a remake of its Hollywood version after he made a film with the same titled in 1997 for Australian audience.

It’s seems that he’s only to show it as a match to similar films that being hits at that time like Saw and Hostel, which exposing the thrill of people getting killed by people.

  1.   YOU'RE NEXT (2011)

It’s a story of a family reunion that’s held in a large family house in remote area. The murder carried out by three men with three kind of masks each; the masks of tiger, wolf and sheep, that killed residents of the house one by one. They cannot escape or runaway because the entire area of the house has isolated tightly by the masked men.

The killer terrorizing the whole family by leaving a note on the wall saying, "You're next" that taken from the blood of the last victim and anyone should be ready to become the next because the killers always do what the promise.

One that’s not expected by the attackers was the present of Erin as the only person who’s able to survive and finally find out the identity of the masked men and turned to kill them all.

With a production budget of US $ 1,000,000 the film earned gross revenues of US$ 18,474,268 without installing the famous names. That’s the legitimate magical strength of horror movie…
