It’s always exciting to meet my
fellow writers especially who’s got same interest in horror. From our chit-chat
there’s a topic about Indonesian horror in old days and one of them known as
Satan Slave.
The film was produced in 1980 and very popular in its time because it had been the pioneer that base on Islamic faith after Indonesia was being flood by horror movie with other belief from outside such as Christianity that came from western movie and Buddhist that came from Hong Kong and China.

Sisworo Gautama Putra - The Director of Satan Slave |
It’s interesting to say though it
filled with Islamic belief the film was directed and written by Sisworo Gautama
Putra who turned out to be a Christian. The achievement was marvelous
because not only being concern by Indonesian people but internationally as
well, with the original format in VHS. The movie achieved cult status as an
eastern horror movie and subtitling into English.
For me, the film was truly scares
me like hell, moreover I was only a kid back then and I can’t sleep after I
watched it. The image of a dead body that rise from the grave and Kuntilanak
who peek outside a window can’t get out of my mind even during a bright
daylight which, by unlucky, shadowing for almost several weeks later. I refused
to go to the warehouse because I was to scared if by sudden I saw my helpers
hanging there as experienced by Mr. Karto who was killed there in that movie.
One of the scariest scenes |
"It would be cool if someone
remakes it," says Ari Keling, one of the writers who hang out with me.
"But it should be made by
good director. If it’s not, I think it will be disappointing," I commented.
From that discussion, it came to
me several names as a proper horror directors that will be fit to do the
project, here we are:
1. Chiska Doppert
She’s a good director who already
made horror movies such Missing
(2005), Tumbal
Jailangkung (2011), Kerasukan
(2013), Kamar 207 (2014),
Cermin Penari
Jaipong (2014).
2. Rizal Mantovani
He was a director of video clips
once but he found he’s passion in horror movie and he’s work includes Jelangkung (2001), Kuntilanak
(2006), Kuntilanak 2
(2007), Kuntilanak 3
(2008), Kesurupan
(2008), Taring
(2010), Wewe (2015)
3. Nayato Fio Nuala
He’s got lot of experience
because of his seniority in this industry, so no doubt that he could make a
good remake like what he did on The
Soul (2003), Kereta
Hantu Manggarai (2008), Hantu Perawan
Jeruk Purut (2008), After School Horror
(2014), Hantu Pohon
Boneka (2014), Horror House
(2015).
4. The Mo Brothers (Kimo Stamboel
& Timothy Tjahjanto)
They’re just like Batman and
Robin in horror industry. A dynamic duo who always creating a movie with high
level of tension as they did on Bunian (2004), Takut : Faces of Fear
- segmen “Dara” (2008), Rumah Dara
(2010), Killers
(2014)
5. Jose Purnomo
Propelling jelangkung along with
Rizal Mantovani in 2001, Jose Prunomo later released horror films were also
other cool like Angkerbatu (2007), Pulau Hantu (2007),
Rumah Kentang (2011),
308 (2013), KM97 (2013), Rumah Gurita (2014), Mall
Klender (2014), Tarot (2015).
So which one you think is the
most capable to make the remake?
