10 CLOVERFIELD LANE

What make me choose to watch this movie off course the name of J.J Abrams, which showing as one of the Producers, and this film probably the next horror of him since the last Joy Ride series in 2014.  I Viewer in Indonesia barely watch his horror because there aren’t much here. We know more about Abrams’ movie on a sci-fi genre, such Star Trek, Star Wars, and Mission Impossible.

10 Cloverfield Lane indeed the sequel of its debut, Cloverfield, in 2008 that showed the alien’s attack. Although it doesn’t continue in directly but it took the view of the attack, started with some girl who gets an accident before the attack. It was Michelle who leaving her fiance back town to some rural area which by sudden hit by another car and made her throw to the cliff. She woke up in a small room with needle stuck at her arm and found out that she, and two other guys who lived in that bunker, became a survivor from the attack.

Howard, the old guy that saved her from the truck accident, treat her properly and Emmet, the young one, tried to be nice and made her calm but Michelle didn’t believe about the attack and the air pollution. She tried to escape by stealing Howard’s key but when she almost made it to the door way a woman came near the window, her skin face deformed by infection and she beg to get inside. Howard warned Michelle not to let the woman in because she’s infected by the air. The woman became furious and she bangs her head to the glass of the door.

Found out that Howard probably right, Michelle apologize and started to listen more to him. He also admitted that he’s the one who hits her car from the cliff because he was on his way back to the bunker when the attack started and he was panic to see other car around. Emmet, the younger guy is also becomes more friendly than Howard and sometimes Michelle realized that Howard is a little bit jealous of him.

Eventually, the trio became friendlier each other and start working together like a real family. Howard lets Michelle borror clothes belonging to his daughter, Megan, whom he lost. He shows Michelle a picture of Megan. MIchelle and Emmett also bond, with Emmett discussing how he had a chance to play sports for a university, but he skipped the chance ti leave town because he was afraid. Michelle recounts a time when she saw a little girl being abused by her dad at hardware store, and she felt bad for walking away and do nothing, especially considering her own troublesome childhood.

But the bound cracked when Michelle found out the scratch out of HELP on the window when she fix the air filtration on the filtration room, along with earrings which she recognized as Megan belonging. She show Megan's picture to Emmett, who says the girl in the picture is not Megan but a girl from his high school named Brittany, and she went missing a while back. Both realize that Howard is a threat, and they need to get out of there immediately.

Michelle and Emmett stole some of Howard’s tools to built bio hazard suit and gas mask. Howard who realized he's equipment is missing bring out the vat of perchloric acid to dissolve them, asking them why they stole his gun as well. Emmett gave him a reason and said sorry but Howard shoot him instead. The situation went wild and Michelle tried to escape, once again, from the bunker.

Michelle finished her suit and managed to run from Howard by little incident. But on the outside she found another monster that much worse than Howard. What they told her about the attack was true. Some space ship came down to the yard and there’s an octopus-like monster that chase her in order to kill and destroy. It’s cool to see what the crew made of the alien robot. It really look mean, nasty, but hi-tech, reminds me of things they made on Alien and War of The World. Futuristic monster, in my opinion...

The best scene on this film?

Well, I choose the scene where Emmet taking the blame from Howard, which he stole Howard’s gun in order to gain Michelle respect for him, as Howard did. And for that cause he took the shoot in the head and Howard look at him in a cold blood. But most of all, the film had every scene that needed to drive you nuts about how we live in a bunker, though it make you save from the outside, and fought the chance for our freedom.
