SILENT HILL: REVELATION

Davis Film
Directed by:  Michael J Basset
Starring by: Adelaide Clement, Kit Harrington, Sean Bean

Silent Hill Revelation is some film that used all kind of stuff that you’ve expected from horror movies. The stunning act in the opening that turned out to be dreams, a weirdo that always stalking the main character, an old journal that explain the past, and some stranger that support the protagonist until they found out that those stranger lead them to the main hell.

The movie tries to imply the path from the games and connected it. Such as the picture of a girl with moth over her face on the wall poster when Heather bumps the door of school corridor over Vincent, moths are used often as imagery in the video games and represent Sharon change into Heather.

Or a red high-heel shoe on the headboard when Heather and Vincent stay over a night on Jack’s Inn, it used as an object in the game of Silent Hill 3 to solve a puzzle in the amusement park, which unfortunately didn’t become anything on the movie because there’s nothing such a puzzle solving.

Also, the truck driver whose pick Heather and Vincent up when they are leaving Silent Hill is Travis, the main character of Silent Hill: Origins. The bus with two police car escorting is tribute to another Silent Hill game, Sillent Hill: Downpour, probably lead to the next series of the movies.

I was glad to see the forms of strange creatures in these films that are not tacky, some of those creatures are developed from the original but that’s what makes it interesting, like weird spider that change human to mannequin; it really something tricky isn’t it?

Because mannequin also intimidating to some people. The spider and mannequin remind me of Mexican Urban Legend, La Pascualita Mannequin. The rumors said that the old mannequin had to be a body of Esparza’s daughter that preserved after she dies by some bitten of poisonous spider.

Or like the faceless monster that kills Douglas the PI. Or the red pyramid monsters that slay prisoner hand that come across the bar jail and help Heather to kill the main antagonist at the end. And the main demon Alessa that destroy the city of Silent Hill, remind me of Stephen King’s Carrie that also destroy the whole city with such style.

But the coolest thing among all of those creatures is monstrous nurses at the asylum when Heather helped Vincent to escape. It developed from Chinese zombie that sensitive to movement and air breathes. Every time Vincent move or breathe heavily, the nurses are prepared to stab or sly everything on their way.

The story of the protagonist that try to release the one who they love, in this case the father of Heather, quite entertaining and I like the end of the story when Heather finally combat her demon side at Alessa and win it, implies that love always defeat hatred. Only two things that bothers me when I see the movie.

One, the goofy thing about the movie is the school bus that has the Canadian sign "Yield/Céder" at the back, which indicating that the film was shot in Canada whereas the story taking place on the US.

And two, if you want to see the movie as type as Silent Hill, please put your kid back home because many scene show the slaughter which is not good for children consumption. I’m not amaze when the couple beside me tries very hard to calm their child when the scene of man slaying on the restaurant’s kitchen rolled.
