The movie begins in 1987, where a young Les Daniels, who is terrified of snakes, is forced to go to a wedding. His family, which belongs to a group of a snake adorned religion, forced him to hold the snake and the same snake killed his father by biting the artery.


Twenty years later, Les who’s still scared of snakes had to deal with the ancient snake called Unteka. His older brother, Duff, one day brought a little snake that live in the bottle, which he steal from a snake proprietor, an Indian named Screaming Hawk from his shop.

By accidentally the bottle fell down and broke. Duff that told by Screaming Hawk about three rules; never let the snake out of a jar, never let the snake eat anything living, and don’t be afraid of a snake’s heart, knows from those little accident he’s got into trouble when he saw the snake grow larger than before.

The Unteka ate the kitten, then chickens in the coop, and made it large 20 times before. Duff tries to kill the snake by stabbing its head and he think he succeeds when he saw the snake is dead. Well, funny thing is I had some stories about killing snake on the head…

When I was a child, my parent told me that their friend was murder by snake. The story begins when their friend was on his way to the office by car. The district of his residence on mid seventy was realm with bowery flora. Suddenly, he felt his car rolled on something that made him think he hit animal like dog or cat. 

He go out from the car to take a look and there it was…a five feet’s cobra lies backward on the asphalt… smashing apart on its stomach by tyre. He wants to put away the snake from the street when another snake come from nowhere and run after to the dead snake. My parent’s friend gets back on the wheel and left the spot. 48 hours later he found dead when he was gardening on his garden on the warm weekend. Autopsy found two similar holes on his hand that indicate snake bites.

Later, I knew from the science book that snake’s eye works like video camera. It record strong memories, especially the last memories of its life, that made them could interact with other snake although they’re already dead. Funny, because I thought snake’s eye are blind because its sense their way by tongue. 

But the fact is, my parent’s friend dies because the same kind of snake that smashed by his car. Further more, people said the snake which killed him is a relative of the dead ones and take revenge because it’s seen the murderer face by look at the eyes.

And the fact is Duff’s snake is not ordinary snake. It’s a legend snake that killed Hawk’s tribe and Unteka cannot killed by ordinary ways. The snake remains lives and killed the dog on the backyard. Grew larger and stronger, Unteka then ate Duff also in the house.

The monster more savage at large. It eats sheep, cows, and also a bunch of families who had been camping on the jungle, and it grows bigger with massive speed. The thing about eating and grew bigger made me remember about the old game snake on my phone cell.

To stop the terror, Les investigate the snake from where he belong and found Screaming Hawk. Together they chase Unteka to stop the monster from killing many more. 

Beside Les and Hawk, there’s another snake hunter that hunt down the Unteka by flooding the snake by the fire-gun, unfortunately the ploy failed because the monster can’t killed on the outside. Hawks told Les, by the story from his older people on his tribe, to killed Unteka is not from inside…not outside.

Bad mistake happened on the scene when the Unteka eat the snake hunter. I don’t know whether the scene want to pick up the dramatic angle of the hunter who’s being hunt down and eaten by the prey, because the dramas from where the hunter beg and yell before Unteka swallow him up are terrifying, but I think it’s obviously false when I see the snake eat the hunter by the leg first.

None of the regular snake swallows its victim like that. It’s always by the head first so the legs won’t stuck by its mouth. Or perhaps, the gigantic size of the Unteka made it able to do the other way around. 

But the gigantic size also add confusion, at the beginning, when the snake’s size still small its attack other with poisonous bite like cobra. But what happened when the still grew larger, it’s also bind like python. So what kind of snake Unteka is? Biter or binder? Dunno…

The peak of the story takes place on a town carnival, like usual monster story, and its present turns the party to the blood bath party. Screaming Hawk failed to kill the snake so Les has to replace him, in order to save Erin, who already been digested by the monster. Let him self swallow by the snake, Les then stab the snake heart from the inside and win the battle like the legend of Hawk’s tribe.

So, if you want to crush your opponent, which is bigger than you, and it hard to killed from outside…you may try to destruct it from inside…like Greek soldier who bring down Troy using Trojan horse….
