What will you do if a bunch of pretty girls gathered on the same scene and invited you to some wild parties on their place? I think that invitations are something that couldn’t avoid…but you should beware if the parties end by murder.
Megan fined her boyfriend, Garret, was cheating on her so she decide to pull a prank on him: setup some fake game for her own death in front of Garret. It’s funny at the beginning to see a panicked face on the boy’s face, but it’s not funny at all when the joke turns to a real deal.
Garret, who thinks Megan’s really dead; stab her with a tire iron to release air from her lungs so her body can’t float up when they put her on the old mineshaft. Panicking, the groups dump Megan and left her there with a secret they had to keep…
Eight months from the tragedy, Jessica, Ellie, Cassidy, Claire, and Charlene Chugs who belongs to a core member called Theta Pi still hold their secret. Eventually, there’s a member who’s week like Chugs or disagreed like Cassidy, Theta Pi girls keep their mouth silent about the murder.
It reminds me of the brotherhood I belong when I was on college. The boyz with whom I hangout with, had a bad habits for drugs. I, myself, never touch those drugs but it was difficult to reject your friend when you’re in the band and found dead-match for the same music with them. One of the personnel, one day, can’t froze the doze and got bad heart-attack. His body shivering all night and I’m sure he will dead before morning.
Panicking, we brought him to the hospital to seek rescue. But before that, we all made promise that none will open our mouth if he died by OD, to keep the name of our band… our brotherhood stays clean.
I know you will ask me this question: What happened if doctors know the truth by autopsy? They wouldn’t, because we made him drink milk to shield the effect. And our answer only these: He’s got food allergy that we don’t know what it was! We kept those secret until now but thank God my friend heals so we keep it with no guilt.
Back to Theta Pi, their sisterhood keeps everything clean until the secret come to nightmares when they all receive weird massage about what they done to Megan and photo of the murder’s tool. It began since Maggie, Megan’s sister comes to the college, and they suspect Maggie was jerking them.
The suspense rose up because the weird massage come to threat and begun to kill the core members of Theta Pi.
The first victim is Charlene, Garret’s sister, when she was visiting her therapist, then Garret. Jessica thinks Maggie is behind all of the terror but Cassidy, who try to convince her friend, seek Megan’s body by entering the mineshaft and found that not only Megan’s body was missing but also the writing on the mine’s wall that Theta Pi must die. So, there’s possibility that Megan it-self who’s back to take revenge.
The terror continue to consume Claire and chasing after Jessica and the others. I guess the murder is neither Megan nor Maggie. From the murder weapon, tire iron that modified by knife, I think woman don’t have enough power to throw it like that.
Also from the plot, I think if the killer was Megan, she would focusing his revenge only on Theta Pi’s girls and not another person like Dr. Rosenburg (Charlene’s therapist), Joanna (the girls on bathroom), Mickey (Claire’s boyfriend), and Mrs. Crenshaw (The College’s headmaster).
And my guess was correct. The murder is not Megan, because she’s still dead and hung by the real murder on the bathroom ceiling to terrorize the girls, and wasn’t Maggie because she also attack by Molotov.
The killer was Andy, Cassidy’s boyfriend. He was doing it to release Cassidy from the mad-bounding of Theta Pi, and because the others know about Theta Pi’s secret so they must die too. He succeeds to kill Jessica but when Cassidy found out the truth, she rescue Ellie and Maggie that would be his next target. Andy that doesn’t want kill her at the first place turns out to hunt her to shield the secret.
The reason Andy killing the members of Theta Pi was absurd to me, but I realized that even a small secret wasn’t saved if it is known by many people, especially if the secret’s keeper is woman he he he…chapiss
So, I think the best way to keep a secret save is not sharing it by another…or there would be a leaking path that made the secret reveals…

Admire a fancy, polite, smart, and educated cannibal?
Well, Hannibal Lecter is your answer…he’s the man….
Hannibal the Cannibal was his nickname, isn’t it?
I followed every step of his journey since Silence of the Lamb and Red Dragon, and find that he makes me surprised as usual. On Hannibal Rising, he takes us to the former of his era and as I told before, he surprised me that apparently he was a Russian. Lecter is a name of a Russian?
Like many evil, they’ve born by painful situation. There’s a scar left on their heart and if it’s doesn’t heal it would grew them a horrible monster. The tragedy of his sister, Mischa, which slashed cold-bloodily by five SS volunteer that, trapped on Lecter’s lodge during blockade, haunted him a bad dream every night. Lecter survive from the butchery and goes to French, after he look for his uncle which already dead when he get there, with his aunt names Murasaki.
I don’t know how Russian man could meet Japanese girl on that period, but I think the idea is to lead Lecter to a perfect source that can teach him about assassination skill. By lady Murasaki, Lecter train how to kill and mastering the art of it.
The first murdered he made toward a fish butcher name Mammund who harassing his aunt on the market. Lecter cut off Mammund’s head and made him pursued by police. Lecter can avoid the lie-detector when he was young and I don’t know he could do that, perhaps the training work so well.
After Mammund’s butchery he found out some pleasant on killing and start to hunt down Mischa’s killer for vengeance.
Start from Dortlich on Russia, which gave him the name of the others after Lecter torturing him, then Milko, then Kolnas, and the main evil and nasty antagonist, their leader names Grutas. During the chasing, Hannibal Lecter, which apparently handsome when he was young, turn to be a man-eater and having fun while he plays with his victim.
I enjoy watching Ulliel expression that played Lecter’s character. With sharp eyes, firm face, cool gesture, cynical smile, and deep-low voice he turn everything upside down and embarrassed creature like Chucky ‘the Satan doll’ or Freddy Kruger who has to perform ugly shape to spread horror. Under those good looks hiding a demon, indeed, that ready to catch you if you’re not aware.
On this movie we can see the seed of Hannibal Lecter grows, the seed that made him a man we always known as a cold man, full with riddle, mind reader, and calm but we also shown different character of Hannibal. Human’s character. Surprised? I think it’s also surprised Officer Sterling, isn’t it officer?
Truth is I’m surprised to see Hannibal want to let loose Kolnas only that lady Murasaki put a favor on Kolnas daughter. Only, Hannibal was a Hannibal, a man who always playing his prey to know their character. When he promised not to hurt Kolnas, he put Kolnas gun on the stove and the tempted Kolnas try to grab it to shoot him. Kolnas failed. But, again, doesn’t like other victims that die with agony, Kolnas dies fast, and not eaten by Hannibal.
Gong Li appearance as lady Murasaki made Hannibal character more human by knowing about love, even so, in the end, those woman left him with dying Grutas, the leader of bad guys, because he can’t hold the seduction of eating man and keep his promise to take care Mischa by finishing the vengeance.
The left of Murasaki closed the humanity of Hannibal Lecter twice as ensued by Mischa’s tragedy.
He’s heading north to Canada chasing the last bad guys, Grentz. Though the movie doesn’t give the details picture after exploring conversation between Grantz and Hannibal, that come to Grentz’s store and told his enemy that he have some business to do for him, some deal about head business, but my imagination flew to several scene that Hannibal can do to him. However he’s the last man and Hannibal wouldn’t waste him easily to get some fun, right?
Hannibal’s creator Robert Harris completed Hannibal history by amazing ways. Usual an author built his character start from the beginning to the end, like Paolini did with Eragon or Rowling with Harry Potter, but Harris doesn’t take the same path. He start from the middle on Silence of The Lamb, and forward with Red Dragon, then move back with Hannibal Rising.
Only there’s something missing about Hannibal, I think Harris should explain how Hannibal got caught by the American police and end up at federal jail. He must be moved to US after finishing he’s ‘businesses on Canada and doing his madness there. How he done his first crime in US? How many victim he’s playing with?
Yes, Harris must open the storage and delivered it to us! That’s his job!
Those stories would take part as a missing link and complete Hannibal’s journey. And if Mrs. Harris agrees with me that’s giving him an idea for his next novel and it’s all free, isn’t that right Mr. Harris? he he he… chapiss…

Begun with bunch of ladies that crossing the wild river that built some impression of a batch sporty woman, I could guess most of the case would happen on wilderness. After the wild, Sarah back home with her families by car. Her husbands undergo a day-dream and made a car accident that killed him-self and their daughter. Something that impossible to happened, I think, because I also had a day-dream every time driving my car and nothing damage occurred, only not listening to my honey, sorry dear.
The scene of turn-black alley on hospital also disturbed me, please don’t say that horror genre enforce this act to exist, because the scene didn’t correlated with the next when Sarah cries on her best friend shoulder after found out that all her families died.
A year later, Sarah join her five best friends (Juno (Natalie Mendoza), Rebbecca (Saskia Mulder), Beth (Alex Reid), Sam (Myonna Buring), and Holly (Nora Jane Noune), a brawny powerful lady, to reunite on a cave expedition.
This reunion was set-up by Sarah’s friends to help her forget the tragedy but their recklessness by leaving the map on the car made the expedition goes horrible. These six tuff lady lost their way on a journey and while they’re trapped on the cave some danger heading their ways.
This movie runs very slow on the first 20 - 25 minutes. The caving expedition almost made me bored, perhaps because I’m not a typical of an adventurer guy’s, so I don’t understand why people like to crawled inside a dark-narrow tunnel only to find some amusement, but astonishing picture from underground that had been taken on this movie would amused you a little bit.
Some point I’ve learn that you have to climb the stalactite if you want to cross the gulch and pulled the rope for your friend, wow…it’s hurt man… I’m sure I couldn’t do that…think about pulling my bodies above dark hole that couldn’t be measured it depth kills my nerves.
The terrors start when the earthquake collapsed the tunnel. To find another way out they have to seek other side which lead them to bone-yard where a queer creatures circling them there. Devoting their attention to attack the six women who dare’s to enter their sanctuary.
The creature profile’s just like a bat-monster on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, only without wing, and turn to be a blind blood-hunter. Those ladies split up and run forward to save themselves. On that purpose, Sarah found the weakness of the creatures and finally her courage to rid them off.
Pity, there’s only few information to explain these creature, whether they are a lost soldier from the expedition many years ago that become a cannibal underground troops because they couldn’t found the escapade or just a real monster that hunted down the living things for food.
Separation among them runs funny. While the other run to self their life, disunion between Sarah and Juno happened from Beth’s tragedy. I don’t understand why Beth accused Juno killed on a purpose when she pulled and throw an axe through Beth’s neck.
Juno has been fought the creature and killed them, her attention totally focus on fighting, alarmed by anyone…or anything…that came near could harm her, I think you’ll do the same as her, when Beth draw near and on that moment stabbed by an axe. It increased when Beth grab Juno’s necklace and give it to Sarah. The necklace that apparently giving by Paul, Sarah’s husband, and made Sarah knows that her best friend has been cheating her all this time.
Perhaps Paul’s day-dream, that causing him death, come from Juno.
Maybe Neil Marshall, as a writer, try to slide a love story to keep up the monotone plot from boredom but I think the trick doesn’t work. This triangle of love thing doesn’t have strong shape, for consequences it’s only become an itchy spice.
I think The Descent can be more attractive if Paul still lived and Juno took Sarah on that expedition in order to kill the wife by ‘cave’ accident so she could get Paul on marriage. To do that she have to take some friends for her alibis. The drama increased when Juno made a mistake that make her trapped together with her victim and become a victim too by unknown monster.
The Sarah’s escapade with finding ‘coincident’ ways and heading a highway afford instant relieve but surprised me when discover that’s only Sarah illusions.
The reality is she still trapped underground and probably never found way home. Such end was find with me but I don’t understand about a Sarah’s daughter that came so often, sometimes on a tough situation, with a birthday’s cake and looked forward for her, only this time Sarah smile and the girl vanished and followed by monster’s screaming.
How come she smiled when the danger shadows? Is that because she’s finally reunited with her lovely daughter on the other side, perhaps? Maybe you could answer it for me…
